About Lotsa
Lotsa is a free tool that helps you understand the Swedish rules and benefits that affect your finances: parental leave, sick leave, unemployment insurance, pension, and tax returns.
Many Swedish rules affect everyday life and your wallet more than people realise, but the information is spread across long government pages and hard to translate to your own situation. Lotsa takes your situation and works out what the rules actually mean for you, so you don't have to read through the rulebooks yourself.
Today Lotsa covers parental leave in depth, and more calculations and features in that area are on the way shortly. After that, more categories will follow.
Why Lotsa exists
The rules around SGI, parental leave, sick leave, pension and unemployment insurance are public. The problem is that they're rarely written for ordinary people. To understand what actually applies you often have to read through reams of information from Försäkringskassan, Skatteverket or Pensionsmyndigheten, and then try to work it all out yourself.
That's where Lotsa comes in. You fill in your situation and get back numbers you can plan around, instead of a rulebook to interpret on your own.
Behind Lotsa
Lotsa is a solo project with no company or investors behind it. I'm Daniel Gyllensand, a developer, building Lotsa alongside my regular job. It started when my partner and I were expecting our first child and tried to work out what the parental leave would actually mean for us — what the SGI meant, how the days would last, what the collective agreement actually covered. Rather than guess, I built the tool I'd wanted myself. It turned out more useful than I'd expected — first for the two of us, then for friends and colleagues who reached out with the same questions. So I kept building, and it kept growing.
If you spot a mistake or something is missing, send a note to [email protected]. I read everything myself.
The rules are yours
There's no sign-up, no ads, and your information is never sold. I cover the running costs myself. The rules are public and the benefits are yours — understanding them shouldn't cost you anything.
Your answers in the calculator never leave your browser. The calculations happen entirely on your device.
Independent from government agencies
Lotsa is an independent tool and has no affiliation with Försäkringskassan, Skatteverket or any other government agency.
For official decisions or applications you always need to use the relevant agency's own services. For parental leave that's forsakringskassan.se.
